What It Costs

What does a luxury Sumba resort stay cost?

Indicatively, luxury properties on Sumba run from roughly £800 to £2,500 per night for two adults. It moves a long way with villa type, season and what the package includes. Send us your dates and we will give you a real figure rather than a range.

What payment methods are accepted?

Major credit cards — Visa, MasterCard and American Express — are generally accepted for bookings and on-site spend, and bank transfer is common for deposits. We confirm the exact options for your property when we quote.

What is the cancellation policy?

It varies by property, booking date and rate type. Free cancellation up to somewhere between 30 and 90 days before arrival is typical, with penalties after that. We set out the specific terms in writing before you commit.

Are there discounts or special offers?

Periodically — usually for longer stays, early reservations or off-peak dates. They are not always published, so ask when you enquire and we will tell you what applies to your dates.

Booking & Timing

Booking Your Stay

Ask us directly

When should I book for peak season?

Six to twelve months ahead, particularly for July to September and December to January. Availability on the best villas goes first, and early booking usually secures a better rate as well as the dates.

How do I book a stay?

Message our reservations team with your dates and party size. We check availability directly with the properties, come back with villa options, rates and inclusions, and hold the booking once you have chosen. There is no form to fill in and no booking fee.

What booking requirements should I know about?

Minimum stays can apply in peak season. A deposit is normally taken at the time of booking with the balance due closer to arrival. We confirm both before anything is charged.

Can I request a specific villa or suite?

Yes, subject to availability. We can send descriptions and images of each accommodation type. Booking early matters here — the more distinctive villas go first.

What to Expect

Ask us directly

What is included in a booking?

Usually accommodation, daily breakfast and airport transfers from Tambolaka (TMC) or Waingapu (WGP). Some packages add selected activities, non-alcoholic drinks and wellness programmes. We list the inclusions explicitly in your confirmation.

Are there all-inclusive packages?

Several properties offer packages that come close — meals, selected drinks and certain activities. A fully all-inclusive model in the Caribbean sense is less common on Sumba, so it is worth reading what each package actually covers.

Are there family-friendly options?

Yes. Multi-bedroom villas, dedicated children’s programmes and age-appropriate activities are available across several properties. Tell us the ages travelling and we will match you accordingly.

How far ahead should I book activities?

One to two months for the popular ones, especially in peak season. Surfing, horse riding and cultural village tours all have limited capacity. We can arrange them alongside the booking.

About Sumba

Something not covered here? Our concierge team replies within the hour.

Ask us directly

Is Sumba safe for tourists?

Generally yes, with a welcoming local population and high security standards on resort property. As anywhere, take normal precautions with valuables and be aware of your surroundings away from the resort.

How does Sumba compare to Bali or Lombok?

It is a different proposition. Sumba is about cultural immersion, rugged landscape and privacy rather than nightlife or tourist hubs. Resorts here lean towards seclusion and sustainability. If you want quiet and authenticity, Sumba wins; if you want a busy scene, it will not.

Are new luxury resorts opening?

Sumba is seeing growing interest from high-end operators, but we do not announce openings we cannot confirm. Ask us when you enquire and we will tell you what is genuinely in development.
