Village Walks
Ancestral villages with living megalithic tombs.
Culture
Pasola, ancestral villages and ikat weaving. Sumba keeps one of Indonesia's most intact indigenous cultures — Marapu traditions, megalithic tombs and clan villages you can still visit as a guest rather than a spectator.
Living Culture
The Sumbanese maintain ancient Marapu animist traditions alongside striking megalithic tomb architecture and clan-based villages. A cultural stay here offers experiences that exist nowhere else.
The Spectacle
An ancient ritual jousting festival held in West Sumba, usually February or March. Hundreds of horseback riders charge each other throwing spears — a ceremonial display of rivalry and harvest celebration, and one of the most dramatic traditional events in Indonesia.
